They are NOT in school long enough in our town. A 1/2 day EVERY single Tuesday? Gimme a break. That's a teacher's union flexing its muscles. Further, the amount of work required AT HOME by the student is astronomical. It's too much for these kids. They need time to play and be a KID. My daughter had three major projects, 1.5 hours of homework every night, and reading for 30 minutes the past two weeks. It was HELL for my family...too much pressure. Who wants to constantly nag and squabble to get your kid to do their work?

I agree, they are not in school long enough. I also think the Middle School and High School need to start a little later in the morning and extend it in the afternoon. They are still asleep at 7:25 in the morning when that bell rings....no time for a good breakfast, etc...tell me, what kid can focus on anything on an empty stomach? AND having the kids HOME at 2:00 is ridiculous.

Also, so much for the MCAS and how that's working if these numbers are correct for the dropout rate. Too much time is spent on teaching TO the MCAS...and not enough teaching the basics. Kids who don't test well are the ones who have to take it over and over until they pass...talk about pressure!!? No wonder a kid after the fifth time taking it decides to drop out? I could go on and on about this...it drives me nuts!! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
