Around Town

Things that irk me as I drive around town.....

-Christmas decorations still up.  It's January 14th for goodness sake!  Christmas is OVER.  And don't give me that crap about it being too cold to take them down....it's been over 50 degrees for a week.

-Oak leaves still on the trees.  They are brown, dried up and depressing looking.  Plus they make a rattling sound when the wind blows.  I don't like it.

-Broken mailboxes.  Fix them!  How much time does it take!  You can do it while you are taking down the Christmas decorations.

-Dirty, brown snow piles.  Yuck.

-Trash in the dirty, brown piles of snow.  Trash on the sides of the streets.  Do you remember that Indian, circa 1978 public service message, who cried a top a hill when he saw his beautiful countryside marred with tons of trash?  What ever happened to him and his message?  I think we need a new Indian....er, Native American (by the way, supposedly that guy was actually Puerto Rican, and not an Indian...but whatever) to spread the same message to the youth of America.........pick up your crap you little pigs!  Jeez!

-Plastic trash bags stuck way up high in trees.  See above.

-Pot holes.  They hurt my car and they hurt me.

-Trucks with snowplows who hog the road.  Move your fat ass snowplow over.  I gotta right to drive here too!

-People who walk or bike on busy road ways and don't move over to the shoulder.  Now I walk, run and bike on busy road ways, and I move my butt over to the side of the road when I see a car speeding toward me.  I move it pretty quick too!   I'm too old to play chicken.

Okay, I feel better now.  Have a great day!

Well, We still have our wreaths hanging up with the red bows on them!! It goes well with the white trash appearance of the house right now. Haven't you ever heard of keeping up your decor untill MLK day? thats what we go by!!!

I believe the indian was circa 1974. that being said, We still have our wreaths up on the windows WITH the big red bows on them!!! We keep some of our decorations up untill MLK Day. Haven't you heard of that tradition?

No. What does wreaths and red bows have to do with a civil rights leader? Sorry, but I get my butt out there and take them down the day after Christmas. Call me a traditionalist!

Actually the "People start pollution, people can stop it" campaign started on Earth Day, 1971 and the actor who was featured as 'The Crying Indian' was Chief Iron Eyes Cody. The PSA went on to be named one to the top 100 advertising campaigns of the 20th Century. BTW, he was not Puerto Rican but rather was born Espera DeCorti, the son of two first-generation immigrants from Italy. In 1924 he moved to California, changed his name - already shortened from "DeCorti" to "Corti" - to Cody, and started working as an actor, presenting himself as a Native American. He married an Indian woman, Bertha Parker, and together they adopted two Indian sons. Iron Eyes Cody lived and worked as an Indian for all his adult life; he labored for decades to promote Native American causes, and was honored by Hollywood's Native American community in 1995 for his efforts. Just thought that you'd want to know......

For the record, it was my HUSBAND who posted that whole Chief Iron Ass Cody segment, NOT ME! I go off to do a Pampered Chef brunch for a couple of hours and look what happens! He posts under MY name making me seem like a know it all bitch!

FYI, he lifted that WHOLE CHUNK WORD FOR WORD from IMDB! I married a plagiarist!

Fitfreak, when I read your post all I could think of was PMS! And in your house that means Poor Mike Suffers!

Hey, at least he has an interest in our Haus Frau lives. My man hasn't read ONE entry as of yet. I still think Mr. Flossy is the nicest guy on the planet. And BTW, I am not PMS'ing. Just noticing things is all.

I loved that commercial...it used to make me cry...because it did make an impact, and I think they should bring it back!! I was 11 when that commercial came out...and you know it made an impact because you were all of ONE?!? I know it was around for a long time, but still...you were a baby!! I say bring the tearful Indian (Native American) back!!

I was thinking, Fitfreak, I know another thing that irks you...and that is SNOW DAYS!!! Enjoy it, stay cool, and get out those snow shoes you got for Christmas!! I need a good laugh...so feel free to come shoe-ing in my yard!! :)
